Older than it looks

North St. Paul itself goes back to 1887, when Henry Anson Castle laid it out as the town of “Castle.” A handful of homes near the old downtown predate the postwar boom. About 7% of homes were built before 1940, and those may have stone or early block foundations with soft lime mortar.

Near Silver Lake and Casey Lake

Silver Lake and Casey Lake are the city's largest bodies of water. Homes on lower ground near the lakes and nearby wetlands can see higher groundwater in wet springs. Keep downspouts extended at least 4 feet from the foundation and grading sloped away from the house. Those two fixes cost little and prevent a lot of wet basements.
